Subject:Spring Break Sprung
Time:09:18 pm

Tomorrow is back to the the usual mad dash to get everyone up, fed, and at their respective schools before I have to be at work before 8:15.....

It was a good break. I enjoyed each day. The weather was perfect in the way that only a Central Texas Spring day could be. The camping trip was fun. I was initially concerned over older son's ability to be away from text messages and basketball courts.  He was a delight, except when he was being a pain in the ass. This is a cliche expression, but it truly was a "bonding' experience for us. It's not often that I get to spend that much time doing something that we both enjoy. Younger son was able to get through the different/lack thereof routine smoothly.

I put in the flowerbeds! It was happenstance that I had the chance to focus on this project this weekend. I try to be as continental Germanic in my heathenry.as I can.. I am always learning. So, I felta certain serendipity in working on my garden during the equinox, during Oestara's time. I put in rosemary, lavender and purple coneflower  (echinacea ) in the front part of the year where the sun is almost constant. I planted columbine In the semi-shade of  the oak trees. On the the north side of my property (read: tiny teeny mid city lot) I planted a row of beans. I like beans, for both the blossoms and the fruit.  Honeysuckle  will  hopefully flourish on the wall near my front porch. I planted my mint in containers so I can move them around the yard as needed. This evening I took the time to build a harrow of stone under my oak tree in the backyard. This is the spot where I usually leave gifts for my land wights. I like to think that they are  pleased with my efforts in the yard.

I fpund a copy of Eyrbyggja Saga at HPB.  While I have no idea how to pronounce the title, I have enjoyed reading the  firstdozen or so "chapters".

And the kitchen cabinets? ummm... yeah.....as Kymsuzannpointed out, they aren't going any where.....

Camping, gardening, new saga to enjoy....it all sounds wonderful. I wanna come spend Spring Break with you at your haus next year. ;)

I miss camping. The girls and I used to camp almost every summer weekend I had offwork (tent camping at primitive campsites) in our years BBM (before BigMan). I think I probably enjoyed it a whole lot more than they did. I love sitting out around a campfire at night, talking and listening to the coyotes cry, and waking up in the morning to cook bacon, sausage, and eggs, all at the same time, over the coals in my 16 inch cast iron skillet which I picked up for $3 at a garage sale and wouldn't have sold for $3000. I even miss washing my hair and body under an icy springfed handpump! The girls would gather wild flowers and make a pretty woodland table-scape every day on the site's picnic table. Those weekends were as far removed from the stressful work environment as they could possibly be and real "battery chargers". I miss camping; I loved camping.

Can you post a pic of your new harrow? I'd love to see it.

I have been really focussed and productive at work this week. Stressful situations haven't even furrowed my brow. I credit this to having a break.... a break that included camping.

Posting a pic? umm... yeah... sure. Once I figure out the technology. I have a camera on my cell phone, but haven't a clue as to how to upload photos. Sigh......

Sounds like a great week.

I can try to pronounce Eyrbyggja for you in person some time but you'll have to remind me. A rough cut would be to say ayer-r-rbig-ya, but the "big" is more of an "ew" sound, the "r-r-r" is trilled or rolled r, and the "ayer" is all smushed into one syllable. That would at least come close to how a modern Icelander might pronounce it.

Camping -> focus. Definitely.

I must get me outside.
